Class Progression Description
The curriculum for our circus classes is progressive and the skills for each level build upon one another. Because of this, many of our classes require completion of pre-requisites and instructor permission to register. These classes are designated with an *asterisk next to their name.
If you have previous circus training and are not sure which class is right for you, send us an email at info@kinetictapestry.org and we will be happy to help you find your fit within our program.
Ground Circus Classes (Ex: Kids Circus, Youth Circus, Tumbling, Teen/Adult Juggling&Unicycle, etc) These are multi-level classes that are divided by age group. The students will work within their class on skills at their personal best level. Our Tumbling and Acrobatics classes follow the skill levels of the United States Gymnastics Association. In our Ground skill classes the skill level numbers are the same for Kids, Youth and Adult. As enrollment warrants, we may divide these classes by level also and offer an intermediate or advanced level separate from basic level.
Aerial Classes (Ex: Kids Aerial Combo, Teen/Adult Trapeze Level 2, Youth Silks/Sling Level 2, etc)
These classes are divided by both age group (Kids: 6-12, Youth: 10-18 and Teen/Adult: 13 & Up) and by skill level (Ex: Intro, 1, 2, 3). When a student masters all the skills for a level on an apparatus, they are awarded a certificate of achievement for that level and may proceed to the next level of skills. The age groups do overlap on purpose but if possible, it is best to pick an age group and stay in that curriculum flow until the student ages out or levels up.
Aerial Age Groups and Curriculum Flow
-
Kids Aerial Combo (Levels: Intro, 1,2,3) - Our Kids Aerial classes multi apparatus and include training on trapeze, silks and lyra.
-
Youth Aerial (Levels: Intro, 1, 2, 3) - Our Youth Aerial classes can be more apparatus specific. Once they complete the Intro to Aerial level youth can continue to take an “Aerial Combo” class which offers training on trapeze, silk and lyra or they can opt for a “Silks/Sling” class or a “Trap/Hoop” class at their level.
-
Teen/Adult Aerial: Our Teen/Adult classes are more apparatus specific. Once a student completes their “Teen/Adult Intro to Aerial” level skills they can move into any Teen/Adult Level 1 class. (Ex: Teen/Adult Silks 1) As registration/interest warrants we may offer an apparatus combo class such as “Teen/Adult Trapeze & Hoop” or “Teen/Adult Silks & Trapeze.”
-
Curriculum flow: The skill progressions are similar in the different age groups but how they are divided into levels is different. The number and difficulty of skills in level 1 of the Kids Aerial curriculum is NOT the same as in the level 1 of Youth or of Teen/Adult curriculum. If you wish to switch to a different age group (Ex: You are 11 years old and want to switch from the Kids curriculum to the Youth Curriculum) please see your teacher for correct placement within the new curriculum levels.
